Braycote Inertox 500-2

Description

Castrol Braycote Inertox greases (formerly marketed as the Castrol Inertox range) are chemically inert, thermally stable high-temperature greases formulated with premium fully synthetic base oils and a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) thickener. They are designed for the long-term lubrication of heavily loaded rolling and plain bearings operating under extreme thermal conditions.

Braycote Inertox high-temperature greases are suitable for use in aggressive environments and offer excellent resistance to inorganic and organic acids as well as alkalis. They are also ideal for vacuum systems and cleanroom applications where a very low base oil evaporation rate is required.

Applications

Castrol Braycote Inertox is intended for lubricating rolling and plain bearings exposed to continuous operating temperatures of up to +260 °C and/or aggressive environmental conditions where conventional greases reach their performance limits.

When used under appropriate operating conditions, Braycote Inertox provides significantly extended relubrication intervals in applications such as:

  • Film stretching equipment

  • Textile tenter frames

  • Kiln trolley bearings in the ceramics industry

  • Particleboard and MDF manufacturing plants

Braycote Inertox 440-1 is recommended for vacuum systems requiring exceptionally low base oil evaporation.

Braycote Inertox 500-2 is approved for gas valves in accordance with DIN 3536 and DIN EN 377 (DVGW).

Braycote Inertox 240-2 is approved for gas valves according to DIN EN 377 (DVGW).

Thanks to its high-viscosity-index synthetic base oils and chemically inert PTFE thickener, Braycote Inertox performs reliably across a wide operating temperature range of -35 °C to +260 °C.

Adequate ventilation must be provided when operating at elevated temperatures. The maximum temperature of +300 °C must never be exceeded, even briefly.

Application Instructions

Castrol Braycote Inertox is chemically inert and therefore is not compatible or miscible with other lubricants.

Before application, all bearing surfaces and rolling bearings should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased using a hydrocarbon-based solvent (such as petroleum ether), while following all applicable safety regulations.

For dissolving, cleaning, and dispersing Braycote Inertox high-temperature greases, Castrol Tribol 1899, a perfluoropolyether-based cleaning agent, is recommended.

Benefits

  • Excellent thermal stability

  • High wear protection and outstanding load-carrying capability

  • Effective corrosion protection

  • Non-flammable and chemically inert

  • DVGW approval for gas equipment (Braycote Inertox 500-2 and 240-2)

  • Wide operating temperature range from -35 °C to +260 °C

  • Specifically developed for heavily loaded guide and support roller bearings in particleboard and MDF production lines (Braycote Inertox 440-1)

Resistant to

  • Hot and cold water

  • Oils and oil-water emulsions

  • Inorganic and organic acids and alkalis

  • Hydrocarbon-based solvents such as gasoline, benzene, toluene, and petroleum

  • Chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents such as trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene (PCE), and dichloromethane (methylene chloride)

  • Alcohols

  • Ketones (e.g. acetone)

  • Halogens

  • Gamma radiation (radioactive radiation)
